FWIW...I've had gallbladder surgery and I had a top notch surgeon. He told me afterwards that I had almost total blockage and it was critical that I had the surgery or I may not be here. It started out as a simple pain and progressed rapidly. I had planned to go to work, but quickly changed my mind and called the wife back to the house to take me to the emergency room. The local hospital couldn't or wouldn't do anything because of some glitch about the getting the right doctor. To ease the pain, they gave me as much morphine as they legally could and sent me home. I finally got in touch with the right people and they got me in surgery within the hour (at another hospital). Gallbladder surgery can be dangerous. Not normally but it can be!

My son had his gall bladder removed by emergency surgery a few years ago. It was very scary... we almost lost him!
