I was working at an insurance processing center and was in the second day of training when the classroom phone rang. It was the teacher's husband explaining what was happening. As she started telling us, two people became very worried, myself and a woman named Brenda. I was worried because a friend of mine was supposed to be at the World Trade Center that week but I couldn't remember which day. Brenda was worried because her niece was a flight attendent and maybe she was in trouble. The teacher dismissed class for all of us to make phone calls and see the news. I called my husband and asked him to call my friend's house. Brenda began calling the airline. For two hours, both of us waited in the classroom for news, pacing and worrying. Finally the phone rang; it was my husband telling me that Edgar was fine but that if it had happened the next day he would have been there. I slid down the wall and cried in relief. The phone rang again. I reached up and answered it. It was our HR person asking for Brenda. Her voice cracked as she did and I could tell it wasn't going to be good news. I handed off the phone to her and couldn't look at her. I then heard the most horrific scream I have ever heard in my life. I would say that it sounded like Brenda's soul being ripped from her body while she was still alive. I picked up the phone and I said to the HR person 'She didn't make it did she?' She answered no. Alicia was on United 175, the plane that we all see slam into Tower 2 whenever they show footage of the attack. Everytime I see that I still burst into tears and I hear Brenda's scream. I did this tribute all week because I nearly lost a friend and someone I know did lose a loved one and I had a part in delivering the bad news. R.I.P. Alicia. I will always remember you.
